Where does the work actually live?

A client asks for an update. The answer should be in the matter record, not spread across phones, inboxes and someone’s memory.

The search before the answer

A client calls to ask what happened on their matter. The lawyer knows the work has been done, but the latest note is in one place, the next court date in another, and a task was handed over in a chat. The answer takes longer than it should.

This is a record-keeping problem. It becomes more visible when someone is in court, on leave or no longer with the firm.

Keep the record around the matter

FirmStack gives the team a shared matter record. Dates, assigned tasks, client information and work notes stay with the matter; billing is available in the same workspace. Home shows what needs attention today, including upcoming hearings, work due and bills to follow up.

The point is to make the next answer easy to find. A partner can see who is carrying the work; a colleague can pick it up without rebuilding the history from messages.

Start with one active matter

For a pilot, begin with a matter the team already knows. Put in its next date, name the person responsible for the next task and record the latest client update. That small exercise shows what is missing from the current workflow and what the team needs to see every morning.
