Terms of Service
Plain terms for firms using FirmStack: you own your data, you stay in charge of your practice, and we tell you before anything important changes.
1. The agreement
These terms apply between FirmStack and the law firm that creates a FirmStack workspace ("the firm"). The person who creates the workspace confirms they are authorised to accept these terms for the firm. Staff the firm invites use FirmStack under the firm's account.
2. What FirmStack provides
FirmStack is software for running a law practice: matters, clients, court and filing dates, tasks, billing, document templates, team work records, suggested next steps for supported procedures and, if the firm switches it on, FirmStack AI. We may improve or change features over time, and will give notice before removing a feature the firm relies on.
3. Professional responsibility stays with the firm
- FirmStack is a tool, not a law firm, and does not give legal advice.
- Dates, reminders, templates and any suggestions are aids. The firm remains responsible for checking deadlines, court dates and documents, and for its duties under the Rules of Professional Conduct.
- Suggested next steps, time limits and drafted documents are worked out from the law and court rules as FirmStack holds them. The law changes, courts apply it differently and every matter has its own facts, so a lawyer must check each suggestion and draft before relying on it.
- The firm is responsible for having a lawful basis to enter its clients' information and for deciding who on its team can see what.
4. FirmStack AI
- FirmStack AI is optional and off until a firm administrator switches it on. The firm can switch it off at any time.
- By switching it on, the firm confirms that it may share the client information its staff paste into FirmStack AI with our AI provider for this purpose, as described in the Privacy Notice.
- AI can be wrong. Its answers are suggestions for a lawyer to check; nothing is saved until a user reviews them.
- Each firm has a monthly AI allowance included in its plan. When it is used up, FirmStack AI pauses until the 1st of the next month.
5. Accounts and security
- Keep passwords and two-factor devices private, and remove staff who leave the firm promptly.
- Firm administrators control roles and access. Tell us at once at privacy@getfirmstack.com if you suspect unauthorised access.
6. Acceptable use
Do not use FirmStack to break the law, to store content you have no right to hold, to probe or disrupt the service, or to access another firm's data. We may suspend access that puts the service or other firms at risk, and will tell the firm why.
7. The firm owns its data
The firm keeps all rights in the information it puts into FirmStack. We use it only to provide the service, as described in the Privacy Notice. The firm can ask us for a full export of its data at any time, including for 30 days after closing its account.
8. Fees
FirmStack is free for a firm's first six months, with no card needed. After that the price is ₦10,000 per lawyer per month. Before the free period ends we will tell the firm how to pay, and no charge applies until the firm chooses to continue.
If we change the price, we will give the firm at least 30 days' notice. The firm can close its account instead, without charge.
9. Availability
We work to keep FirmStack available and to back data up regularly, but cannot promise uninterrupted service. Planned maintenance will be announced in advance where possible.
10. Limits of liability
To the extent the law allows, FirmStack is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to a firm in any 12 months is limited to the fees the firm paid us in that period. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Ending the agreement
The firm can close its account at any time by writing to us. We may end the agreement with 30 days' notice, or sooner for a serious breach of these terms. Either way, the firm keeps its 30-day export window.
12. Governing law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. If we change them in a way that matters, we will email firm administrators before the change takes effect. Questions: privacy@getfirmstack.com.
